Elena Fucci

ELENA FUCCI   Fucci Family
Elena Fucci is a dynamic young woman, who firmly believes in her territory of Basilicata which she continually promotes with tenacity and willfulness from the stage she created for herself through the masterpiece that is her wine, il Titolo. Titolo is a wine that represents not only the past and present, but also what the future has in store for one of the most pristinely beautiful, lesser-known regions of Italy; a wine that is made from a grape, Aglianico del Vulture, that has been part of the Fucci family for generations; a wine that is an expression of this unique land and of this noble grape; a wine that radiates the passion that is Elena Fucci.
The estate is comprised of 15 acres (6 hectares) of vineyards bought in the 1960’s by Elena’s grandfather Generoso.  In 2000 the Fucci’s began producing their own wine and following Elena’s studies of Enology in Pisa all facets of the winery were taken over in the first person. The vineyards are some of the highest of Barile in Contrada Solagna on the slopes of Mount Vulture (an extinct volcano) at an altitude of 1,950 feet (600 meters) and the vines range in age from 15 to 70 years old, the majority of which were plated in the 1950s.  The soil is a complex mix of alternating layers of volcanic lava, lapilli and ash (locally known as “pozzolana”) interspersed with layers of clay which clearly catalogue the various eruptive phases of the omnipresent Mount Vulture.
Elena has been categorized by wine critics as “modern but not modernist” for her capacity to interpret the Aglianico variety in terms of  grape maturity and aging without changing its characteristics .  In fact her wine, Titolo, is refined, elegant, and quite approachable at a young age despite its optimal capacity for cellaring.
